International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment 2011

My painting shows a good and sustainable forest and the causes of forest destruction”, said Trisha Co Reyes, 13, from the Philippines. Her painting – a girl pulling back a grey curtain covered in images of dying trees to reveal a colourful forest filled with wildlife – won first place, amongst 600,000 entries, in the 2011 International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment, organized by UNEP, Bayer, the Japanese Foundation for Global Peace and Environment, and Nikon. This year, the theme of the 20th competition was “Life in the Forests”. Trisha says her picture was inspired by walks through forests, “they are essential for life on Earth, but their destruction is a worldwide problem. We must treasure the Earth’s greatest biological treasure, so that we will always have forests in our lives
